Flights from Adelaide, Perth and Melbourne brought this group of fantastic women – Tiff, Catherine, Julianne, Sarah and myself, together in Brisbane en route to Byron Bay. We squeezed 5 chicks and 5 suitcases into a hire car and I drove us all to Bryon in torrential rain whilst talking the entire way of course!
Pre-planning involves numerous Insta shares of where we will stay, eat, walk and shop. Tiff is a Byron Bay devotee and was our trip curator in a very relaxed way of course. Tiff made sure we were making the most of every meal choice and staying in the best spot.
The Atlantic is a beautifully designed weatherboard enclave where you share living spaces with other guests, relax in the garden and enjoy sinking into a butterfly chair around the fire pit at night. It does have a ‘low noise’ policy which was extremely challenging for a group of 5 girls but we gave it our best shot!
As so many Australian’s know Byron Bay has such a relaxed vibe, filled with really friendly people and the most untouched natural surroundings. It has this Insta famous element of high glamour but really it is a simple seaside town with so many opportunities to eat healthy and lovingly prepared produce, exercise, inhale the fresh air and walk along the crisp white beaches… nothing better!
Creatively it is a design and business hub with some amazing brands being born and run here across all industries. I always leave Byron Bay feeling inspired and after this trip I designed a Byron Boho charm range as part of Palas’ new collection due to be launched late August.
I engaged Tiff’s daughter Indigo (a creative force herself, just like her Mum) to create the most magical illustrations of Boho girls that are currently being hand carved into charm pieces, we are both excited to see how they evolve.
Sharing this idyllic location with a group of friends is one of the most wonderful experiences in life. Travel truly fills my cup and I make sure I create these wanderlust moments as much as possible… ‘girls trips’ are a high priority!
Guys would not relate to this at all, and possibly cringe, but we talk 24/7 about everything and most of all laugh until it hurts (champagne facilitated).
My many amazing friends have always been by my side, especially the past 10 years as they supported me through grief, divorce, business challenges and health. They have loved me to levels I did not know were possible and always reminded me of just how strong I was. They are my biggest cheer squad... I feel teary just writing this... :(
Although most of our time together is all about laughter, payouts and fun, the unconditional love given to me by these girls and my other amazing friends is what has got me through the most challenging times in my life.
I seriously could not have grown through the bad times without my circle of friends building me up, guiding me and celebrating my successes.
Ladies…book your ‘girls trip’ now!…even if it is a year away. It is essential for the soul, cheaper than therapy and simply fantastic fun! Ax
