Emmely Been @tropicaldream

We were charmed to meet and work with the very beautiful Emmely Been for our recent 'Free Spirit' photoshoot in Byron Bay. Emmely is originally from The Netherlands but is a self-professed Australian and can't get enough of our picturesque country. You can follow her travels on Instagram @tropicaldream.

She's a model, influencer, marketing brain and all round bohemian beach girl! She's previously worked with the likes of Arnhem Clothing, Cotton On and Spell to name a few... and she was an absolute dream to work with.

5 Minutes with Emmely

Country of origin…

The Netherlands

Currently living…

In the most beautiful Byron Bay

Friends describe me as…

A happy person! And someone with perseverance. If I want something I will fight for it, even when it's hard sometimes.

Dreaming of…

Living in Australia for the rest of my life in a white wooden house with a big veranda next to the ocean, with a few chickens and a good and sweet man. And the most important thing: being healthy

Guilty pleasure…

Eating original chips with Diet coke haha.

Finding inspiration in…

My beautiful sister: she always shows me if you want to live a certain life, you can do that.

My Life

What is something you can’t live without?
I think the only thing I can't live without at the moment is my iPhone, it's my work but also the only way to communicate with my family back home.

How would you describe your personal style?
Bohemian style! I love prints and boho clothes!

Where is your favourite place to travel?
I always tell people from back home, 'Australia' of course, but besides Australia I also loved Bali and Thailand. But I would like to see The Philippines, Maldives, Marrakech, and California.

What is one thing people don't know about you?
I think a lot of people think that my life was wonderful, but I have been through a lot. That’s also the reason why I am in Australia now. I just want to start over again, be happy and live my own butterfly life.

What are you grateful for?
For a lot of things! That I live in Australia, have a great job, have my own car, a beautiful house with lovely people, a lot of lovely friends, doing well on Instagram, can be creative every day, do a lot of photoshoots (even for Spell and Arnhem Clothing my dream brands) and so much more!

My Work

Are you finding your dream job or are you creating it?
Do you mean: if I found my dream job already? I kind of have! My dream was to earn my money with my Instagram and to have a marketing job! That's what I am doing at the moment. I do a lot of nice projects for my Instagram @tropicaldream and I do marketing at @Unplugged_Byronbay at the moment and it's going really well – I love it!

What do you do in your downtime?
I think I always work. From early in the morning until late in the evening! But if I really need some time for myself, I always go to the beach! Byron has the best beaches!

My Friends and Family

How would you describe your family?
Hard to describe haha! You can write a book about it. But I still love them all!

What’s the one piece of advice your family gave you that you’ll never forget?
My father told me once; 'if you want to achieve something in your life, you can achieve it. You only have to work hard for it, but everything is possible in life' and that inspired me a lot!

Favourite childhood memory?
The first four years of my life when we were still living in a beautiful white farm when my parents were still together. We had a lot of animals and it was one big paradise for my siblings and I.

My Inspirations

What inspires you?
People who are always positive, happy and who see the good in everything! So wonderful! I love to be surrounded by these kind of people because they show me how beautiful life is!

What is your daily mantra that you live by?
Everything happens for a reason. Even when bad things happen: you learn from it.

If you could be any animal in the world, what animal would you be and why?
I think to be a free butterfly. Besides that, I also told my family: 'If I am not here anymore, I will turn into a white butterfly. So every time you see a white butterfly, that's me!' haha.

"Everything happens for a reason. Even when bad things happen: you learn from it."

One Last Thing...

Who would you be charmed to meet, and why?
I think Elise Cook, she's an Instagram blogger. I've followed her for a long time she looks really sweet and she really inspired me. I also really love her Combi van and her style is amazing!
